Leitrim football attacker makes transfer back to home club from Dublin’s St Brigid’s

Mulligan has returned to Melvin Gaels after four years in the capital playing for St Brigid’s, the 2011 Dublin senior champions.

The inter-county player made the move in December 2012 but it has now been confirmed that he has switched back to his home club, with the transfer officially rubber-stamped yesterday by the GAA.

Mulligan hit 0-6 last Sunday for the Leitrim senior footballers in Carrick-on-Shannon as they lost 0-16 to 0-14 against Wexford in Division 4 of the Allianz football league.

The previous Sunday, he hit 0-3 in Leitrim’s 2017 league opener when they defeated Wicklow 1-17 to 0-10 in Aughrim.

Mulligan has been one of Leitrim’s best players since making his debut in 2008, scoring 0-10 against Galway in that championship season.

He suffered a cruciate injury in 2009 before taking a year out from the inter-county game in 2015, playing for the Donegal club in Boston that summer.

Last season Mulligan returned to sction with Leitrim, posting 0-3 in their Connacht defeat to Roscommon, kicking 0-3 in their All-Ireland qualifier win over Waterford and hitting 0-3 when they exited the championship against Sligo.
