How Jets could go all-in for Jim Harbaugh

The Jets are set to do whatever they can to pry Jim Harbaugh away from the University of Michigan.

Gang Green is planning to make a run at Harbaugh after their season ends, according to a Pro Football Talk report citing league sources. He makes $7 million a year at Michigan and the thinking is the Jets will make him a financial offer he “can’t refuse,” according to the report.

The Jets are expected to fire coach Todd Bowles after four playoff-less seasons. The team is currently 4-11 after collapsing late in a 44-38 overtime loss to the Packers on Sunday.

Harbaugh has said he is staying with the Wolverines, who face Florida in the Peach Bowl in Atlanta on Saturday. Earlier this month he spoke to ESPN and denied any speculation he is trying to leave for the NFL.

“This is a choreographed message that comes up at this time every year before signing day,” Harbaugh said at the time. “It’s people spreading messages to further their own personal agenda. But I’m on record right here, right now: I’m not going anywhere. I’m staying at Michigan.”

He has not reached the College Football Playoff in his four seasons at Michigan, but led the 49ers to Super Bowl XLVII. The Jets were denied the chance to possibly go after Harbaugh’s brother, John, when the Ravens announced last week they were working on a contract extension with their coach.
