Jamal Adams will lead trio of Jets into Pro Bowl

A year ago, after missing out on the Pro Bowl, Jamal Adams vowed he would not ever be snubbed again.

So far, so good.

Adams was one of three Jets selected Tuesday to represent the AFC in the Pro Bowl, along with kick returner Andre Roberts and kicker Jason Myers. It is the first Pro Bowl selection for all three.

In his second season, Adams has emerged as one of the best safeties in football. The 23-year-old ranks either first or is tied for first among safeties in sacks (3.5), forced fumbles (3), tackles for a loss (9) and quarterback hits (8), while also ranking in the top five in tackles (94) and passes defensed (12).

Roberts, who was signed as a free agent this year, leads the NFL in punt returns, averaging 14.9 yards per return. He scored a touchdown on a punt return in Week 1. He has eight returns (three punt and five kickoff) of 40 yards or more this season. Of those eight returns, seven have led to Jets scores.

Myers, claimed off waivers from Seattle in August, has hit 31 of 33 on field goals this season. He also has kicked 53 touchbacks on kickoffs, the fifth-most in the NFL. He went 7-for-7 on field goals against the Colts in October. He has made five field goals of 55 yards or more this year.

They are the first Jets chosen for the Pro Bowl since 2015, when Muhammad Wilkerson, Brandon Marshall and Darrelle Revis were all picked to go. Leonard Williams went as an injury replacement in 2016. The Jets had no Pro Bowlers last season.

The Jets signed OT Eric Smith off the Patriots’ practice squad. Starting right tackle Brandon Shell injured his knee Saturday and is not expected to return this season. Smith gives the Jets some depth on the line. The Jets also placed WR Rishard Matthews on season-ending injured reserve. He hurt his hamstring in Saturday’s loss.
