After winning a hard-hitting gauntlet match that spanned nearly FIFTY MINUTES on this week’s episode of Smackdown Live, Rusev will be moving on to challenge AJ Styles for the WWE Championship at next month’s WWE Extreme Rules pay-per-view.
It was Daniel Bryan who kicked off the gauntlet, picking up an incredibly hard-fought victory over The New Day’s representative Big E. The leader of the Yes Movement then narrowly inched past Samoa Joe by count-out to pick up his second elimination.
However, after a seemingly random and unexplained attack from WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champions The Bludgeon Brothers, Bryan was left incapacitated and fell victim to the Skull Crushing Finale from The Miz. The A-Lister would then go on to have one heck of a match with Rusev to close out the show, in front of a hot Toledo crowd that was beyond excited to see the Bulgarian Brute pick up arguably the biggest win of his career.
Rusev will challenge the Phenomenal One for the WWE Championship at Extreme Rules, in what will be his first ever one-on-one match for a world title. Oh, and the best part about all of this? It happened on RUSEV DAY!
