WWE Returning to Separate Brands When Smackdown Moves to FOX

One of the biggest complaints about WWE television among fans in recent months is the state of the so-called “brand split”, and the relationship between Monday Night Raw and Smackdown Live.

Following WrestleMania, Vince McMahon announced a new policy called the “Wildcard Rule” which – in theory – allows for up to four Superstars from Raw to appear on Smackdown on any given week, and vice versa. In reality, the restrictions went out the window literally from day one, and it has essentially opened up the flood gates between the rosters.

There have been more casualties beyond just the sanctity of the brand split. Since the inception of the Wildcard Rule the Smackdown brand has seen a huge percentage of their Monday night house shows cancelled, and in fact ALL of the Smackdown brand house shows this weekend have been cancelled.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the two shows will go back to having completely separate rosters come October, when Smackdown Live moves to Friday nights on FOX. “There may be some minor crossover”, reports the Observer, but they will become “legit separate brands with completely different storylines”.
