One last blow seems to end Eagles’ long-shot chance

Carson Wentz’s season started a few weeks late, and it may be ending three weeks early.

The Eagles’ franchise quarterback won’t play Sunday against the Rams and may not play again this year due to a back injury, NFL Network reported Wednesday.

Wentz, coming off a torn ACL that cut his season short last year, hasn’t been the same player this year as the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles find themselves on the fringes of the playoff race. At 6-7, Philadelphia needs to win out, and it will have to do so without its starting quarterback for at least one week.

Of course, the Eagles’ backup, Nick Foles, did lead them to a Super Bowl a year ago. However, the pieces around Foles haven’t performed anywhere close to how they did last season.
