The Redskins’ quarterback situation is so drastic that newcomers are resorting to video games to help speed up the process.
Josh Johnson, who was signed Wednesday and then came on in relief of a struggling Mark Sanchez against the Giants on Sunday, admitted he played “Madden” to help learn his new teammates’ names.
It’s hard to blame Johnson, who has bounced around 12 different NFL teams during his career and was still the Redskins’ best option Sunday, when he took his first snaps since 2013. In mop-up duty, he completed 11-of-16 passes for 195 yards, one touchdown and one interception while rushing seven times for 45 yards and a touchdown.
It was enough to earn Johnson the start next week, coach Jay Gruden confirmed postgame, as the Redskins try to hang on to their postseason dreams with quarterbacks Alex Smith and Colt McCoy sidelined by broken legs.
