Daniil saved two set points in the tie break against Jo and he dominated in his service games in most of the match to drop 10 points in 10 service games, keeping the pressure on his rival and sailing towards the finish line after a great performance in the second set.
In the on-court interview after the match, Daniil expressed his thoughts about the match, his intentions for constant improvements and the title match against Kei on Sunday: I was really nervous at the beginning, he had an amazing star, I didnt do anything wrong, had 0-40 on the return but he served good, I would have felt really nervous if I had lost the set and I managed to come back.
I had more opportunities than him in the rest of the match and I think I deserved the win. It was a really close match, especially in the first set when he had 6-4 in the tie break. Many players are coming back this year, Jo included, and I wish him all the best for the season.
The tournament has been really great for me so far, I played against Murray in the first match of the year, which is never easy, I could have lost and go to Sydney on the next day but now Im in the final against Nishikori, another great player.
It is an amazing experience and Im happy to be there tomorrow. I still can get crazy on the court some time, probably many people know some stories but Im trying to work on that and get better on and out of the court, also mentally, physically and tennis-wise in general.
I think it has been working well and Im really happy about it. Kei is an amazing player, we practiced here and I think he beat me in one set. It is never easy to play him but at the same time it should be a great final if I manage to win it is going to be an amazing tournament and if not I will just going and try my best and wait for my chances.
