MANKATO, Minn. — The Minnesota State wrestling team will travel to Minneapolis, Minn., to compete in their final open tournament of the season.
When the Maverick wrestlers take the mat Saturday at Si Melby Hall in Minneapolis it will mark the fourth consecutive appearance by the team at the tournament. Minnesota State saw three wrestlers take first place at the 2016 edition of the tournament, while 17 total Mavericks finished in top-six positions in their weight classes.

Returning place winners for Minnesota State include Matthew Blome (So., 197 lbs.) who finished in first place with a 4-0 finish that included three pin falls. Logan Saltou (So., 149 lbs.), Derek Herman (Rf., 174 lbs.), and Chaydon O’Fallon (Sr., 197 lbs.) all finished in second place in 2016. Tanner Mills (Sr., 141 lbs.) and Louie Sanders (So., 141 lbs.) were pitted against one another in the third-place match, with Sanders coming away with a decision victory over his teammate.
The Augsburg Open will transition the Mavericks into the dual portion of their season. Minnesota State will next prepare for a dual matchup against St. Johns at Taylor Center on Nov. 30 at 7:00 p.m.
