Diamond Dallas Page appeared on the “Interview Thursday” edition of the PWTorch Livecast (CLICK HERE TO STREAM OR DOWNLOAD). PWTorch editor and PWTorch Livecast host Wade Keller conducted the interview, which included live caller and email topics. At the beginning of the show, DDP talked about Goldberg’s interview last week on WWE Monday Night Raw.
-On Goldberg speaking with his voice with real emotion compared to rest of roster on script, and DDP connected in that way in WCW back in the day: “Think, shoot, and work. (laughs) Randy Savage is the best example I can give. That and the whole NWO thing, I loved Randy, but when I was on that mic and I was talking smack, I didn’t love Randy. I took it from a guy I wanted to rip his heart out for what he did. Again, we created all of that and it was challenging and at the same time it was easier for me. I’ve taken lines, I’ve been in a bunch of movies, I’m doing this series now called ‘Gods and Secrets’ which is three times more dialog than I’ve ever had and I’ve found a way to make it my own through my wrestling and my acting schools that teach you how to create a back story and all that.”
-When did DDP and others around him realize ‘we’re onto something here’ with Goldberg: “I have an exact moment, and I bet it was just five or six matches in. When he started to come in and really get that push and the people got with him because he was so authentic. He was a killer and he believed he was a killer. He didn’t have the voice to talk, but he didn’t need it. I remember walking up from behind Eric Bischoff and putting my hands on his shoulder as Goldie was walking by and as he walked by, I sort of squeezed his shoulder and said, ‘E, don’t let them f— this up.”
-On knowing Bill long before he trained to wrestle: “I met Bill six years before he ever came in to WCW. Bischoff and I were in a strip joint and I was, like, ‘E, this guy’s awesome, his name’s Bill.’ I was trying to talk to Bill with a full head of hair back then. He still has a full head of hair, he just has to shave his head. He didn’t need to. He didn’t shave because he had to, he did it because he wanted that look. At the time I was like, you would be amazing in our business. His personality was the guy you saw in the ring on Monday. That’s who I saw. That was, god, 18 years ago – more than that, more like 22 years ago. (laughs)

-On Goldberg having his family present at Raw: “I’m happy that Bill… his kid is a pisser and he’s got that wild energy and for him to see his dad and for Bill to put him on his shoulder, that was a huge moment for Bill. God bless him when he’s got to get in the ring with the Beast. I wouldn’t want to get in the ring with him, not at 49, you know. Maybe at 42, sure; 44, okay, 49, eh; at 60, not a chance. I don’t want to be anywhere near him. He is all that and a can of whoop ass on top. I think what Bill has is what most people don’t have – an inner confidence. Bill has a powerful story he tells himself. The reason I was able to guide my two buddies, Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts and Scott Hall, and get them on the right path is I got them to understand they needed to change the story they told themselves – that inner dialogue, your physiology, your focus, your internal dialogue, you’ve got to change it. I guarantee ya’, Bill Goldberg might be second guessing himself some steps on the way there, but when he’s in the locker room and he’s tying up his boots, he won’t be worried. He will be in a power position and it’ll serve him well while he’s out there because he’s going to be in the fight of his life. It’s going to be snug, really snug out there. If Bill catches the Beast with one of those kicks, there might be a receipt coming back. THere’s no way I’m missing that pay-per-view. I don’t even know when it’s coming up, but I will not not be watching and they might be one of the biggest as far as viewership in a long time because people have to see that.”
