Federer, Nadal, Djokovic won't dominate the Australian Open – Corretja

In an interview to Mundo Deportivo, the former world No. 2 commented on the upcoming Australian Open that starts in Melbourne on Monday, January 14 2019. Corretja does not think that the Big Three – and – will dominate the tournament.

I think you have 15 or 20 players who will play their role. I do not know if they will have chances or if they are able to win the Australian Open. But the top guys will not have it so easy. You have a lot of players who recovered and who will make the Australian Open much opener and the season too.

I do not think this one will be so much dominated by the top three or four. It will be a little opener, said Corretja. Recalling his playing days, Corretja added: I never came to the Australian Open having enough time to prepare how I had to.

Spending Christmas and the end of the year at home, with all the fitness preparation then it was difficult. I needed rhythm, I never came to a very good status to say, wow how well I feel and how well I am. And it feels bad because its a five-set Grand Slam, with a lot of heat, and with the ball that bounces high.

I remember that many players were not going there, and it was a little bit a forgotten Grand Slam. But then in the 90s little by little, they realized it was an important Grand Slam. Many players were coming there with doubts.

You sometimes may have switched coach, fitness trainer and also racket or strings. It also comes very early and the big players have not made the difference yet, with the intensity that for example in March you have. ALSO READ: Rafael Nadal: Worse players than David Ferrer won a Grand Slam title
