Thiem: 'Roger Federer's success doesn't surprise me. He is an exception'

In press conference in Doha ahead of the Qatar Exxon Mobil Open said that success at the highest level doesnt upset him. The Swiss won three Grand Slams, 2017 and 2018 Australian Opens, 2017 Wimbledon, over 12 months and he looks to add another Major to his achievements list in 2019. Im not surprised because he is just an exception like the same, like Rafa (Nadal) and Novak (Djokovic), they are maybe the three best players of all time so its no surprise that they are dead good also in advanced age, said Thiem.

That is why Im expecting them also to play for the biggest titles in 2019. And its amazing to have these guys still around, not only in tennis, but I would say in all sports in general, they are amazing, they are superstars and I think, like, players like me, a bit younger, we can be happy to be able to still compete with them.

But on the other hand, of course, we are trying to take the biggest titles away from them like I was pretty close last year in the French Open. ALSO READ: Rafael Nadal: Worse players than David Ferrer won a Grand Slam title
