The first round was with Romanias Monica Niculescu, a diverse and tricky player whose repertoire of unconventional spins and slices could outbeat any player. But Anisimova played the first set tiebreak to the max using her variation of skills to be victorious.
The second set she stayed focused and did what she had to do in opening up the court, coming in and just dictating points that some older players have trouble in doing. She won her opening round at 7-6, 6-4 but her steam and pressure didnt fizzle as she entered thesecondd round on Ukrainian veteran Lesia Tsurenko whose the holder of 4 WTA singles titles and 12 years on tour.
Anisimovas ground game is nearly unstoppable and Tsurenko had tried many remedies shes learned in her decade of play but couldnt shake the New Jersey teen especially in the opening set and bowed her victory of 6-0.
The second set was impressive enough as the Ukrainian dealt with more varieties and was more aggressive than the first set but still couldnt defuse Anisimovas dictation and bowed 6-0, 6-2. The partnering of Danielle Collins with doubles hadnt gone very well for Anisimova as they went down 6-1, 6-3 to the more experienced pair of Atawo/Srebotnik.
The teen will now keep her focus on clearing the singles play coming up with precise techniques and strategies to go as far as she can in this down under tournament. Amanda Anisimova is steaming and pressing right through but can she beat the Belarusian dynamite Aryna Sabalenka coming up next in her draw? She has already etched out history as being the youngest woman to get to the 3rd round at a Grand Slam since the 1999 Serena Williams appearance.
