Kei Nishikori: It was very unfortunate how we finished

Kei Nishikori survived a big scare in the Opening Round of the Australian Open after his opponent, qualifier Kamil Majchrzak retired from the match in the final set. Majchrzak led the 8th seed by 2 sets to 0. Nishikori was visibly struggling with the heat.

Nishikori conceded after Majchrzak hobbled to the net to call time at 3-0 in the deciding set. He was playing very well, better than I thought, I have to say.

It was very unfortunate how we finished, but Ill try to do my best for the next round and hope I can play better. But lady luck was Nishikoris side with his opponent cramping and losing steam from Set 3 onwards.

I was trying to play better every set, second set playing better but he was still playing amazing tennis, forehand, backhand, serving really well today, Nishikori said. He would be looking to make the most of this lapse and now gets set to face Ivo Karlovic for a place in Round 3. I have to be happy to go to the next round because I almost lost today, Nishikori said.

But I will try to be more positive for the next round and hopefully I can play better. One of the ASB Tennis Arena stands could take David Ferrers name
