'Roger Federer is not a machine. He needs to enjoy tennis' – Journalist

In an interview to Tennisnet, the German journalist recalled when, after 2016 Wimbledon, ended his season taking a six-month break. The Swiss player skipped Olympics, US Open and other important tournaments, but he then cameback in winning ways in 2017.

The break was a luck, especially for his mind, said Graf in an interview to TennisNet. And thats very important for him. He is not a machine, he plays tennis, he needs to enjoy it. His career was turning negative, he was the legend who would not win anything anymore.

That was starting to bother him. He also understood that he could not win important matches anymore. He may be influenced by some comments too. During his break from tennis, he could realize if he still wanted all this. He decided: Yeah, I miss it, the story has not finished yet.

His comeback with the Australian Open, Indian Wells, Miami wins, at Wimbledon without losing any set – was incredible. This freshness made him do well physically but it was almost more important mentally. Graf also praised Federer: What I find amazing is that he always gives you something.

He always thinks about what could be interesting for me as a journalist. He takes a lot of time for German, Swiss, French press. Thats very important to him. He knows that his image gets promoted by media. And he enjoys answering questions.

Of course, compared to his childhood, he changed, he matured. If you know him longer, its also much personal. He knows how children are doing, how to handle this and that. ALSO READ: Rafael Nadal: Worse players than David Ferrer won a Grand Slam title
