Andy Murray Takes a Dig at Himself by Posing with Australian Open Trophy

Tennis – Former World No. 1 has taken a dig at himself by posing with the Australian Open trophy for his Instagram feed with the caption The closest Ill ever get to the Aussie open trophy ? #5timeloser

Murray has dropped to No. 240 in the ATP world rankings after missing 11 months due to a hip injury. In the post, Murray poses alongside the Norman Brookes Challenger Cup, which gets awarded to the male champion in Melbourne.

Murray has been to the finals on five occasions in Melbourne – he lost to Roger Federer in 2010 and to Novak Djokovic in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2016. In his only outing this year, Murray was beaten in the second round of the Brisbane International by Daniil Medvedev in straight sets.

Last year, he played six events on the tour, winning 7 of 13 matches. He will enter the Australian Open as an unseeded player thanks to his protected ranking and will be one of the players that all the seeds would like to avoid.

The Australian Open begins on Monday January 14th in Melbourne and ends on January 27th.
