Facing Roger Federer, Nadal, Djokovic is not my priority now – Darcis
feels satisfied with his week at the Pune Open, India. The Belgian player reached the semifinals losing to the 39-year-old Ivo Karlovic, and in an interview to RTBF, he said that he has withdrawn from the Canberra Challenger in order to get to the Australian Open early and prepare there as best as possible for his first round main draw match. I am flying this Saturday at 4:30 AM and I will be in Melbourne on Sunday, said Darcis.
It will give me more time to prepare correctly, I have no idea of how things will go, I just started and I have not thought about it yet, I will see how I feel and I will try to adapt to the conditions that can change a lot.
I have no goals for the Australian Open. If I win its better and if I lose life doesnt change. Darcis achieved his best Australian Open career result in 2017 reaching the third round. He is confident he can play with the biggest players ever again, but facing them is not necessarily a goal: Honestly, with Djokovic, Federer and Nadal, I dont care.
Its good to be in the most important tournaments again but for me, its nice to be on court again, whether its a Grand Slam, ATP 250, a Grand Slam or a Challenger. I did not even follow who is fit now and who is not, I will try to focus on myself, its tough enough.
