Air Drops Contain 2 Brush Fires In Pacific Palisades

PACIFIC PALISADES, CA — An aggressive firefighting effort helped knock down two brush fires in a difficult-to-reach Pacific Palisades canyon Monday evening.

The small fires were reported shortly before 5 p.m., in the 2200 block of Sullivan Fire Road near Murphy’s Ranch, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Air and ground crews had the fire doused by 6:53 p.m., said LAFD spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.

“After water drops knocked back the fire, firefighters reached the burn area by ground,” she said. “They cut lines around the perimeter and conducted mop up operations to ensure all hotspots were out.”

The fire was burning in medium to heavy brush. There was no wind at the time of the fire, but mild Santa Ana winds are forecast to batter parts of the Southland starting tomorrow, increasing the urgency to contain the fires quickly Monday.

No structures were threatened Monday, and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was under investigation. It wasn’t immediately clear how many acres burned.
