Swampscott Big Blue Bargains To Open At Former Clarke School Extension
SWAMPSCOTT, MA — Big Blue Bargains — the nonprofit Swampscott thrift and consignment store that donates all proceeds back to school and community projects — will soon be moving into its new brick-and-mortar home after the School Committee on Thursday night approved its one-year lease at the former Clarke School portable extension.
Big Blue Bargains formerly existed in Swampscott Middle School for several years dating back to 2012 before moving out in the wake of the COVID-19 health crisis. The store briefly found a spot to call its own at 491 Humphrey Street but hopes for a longstanding tenure there were dashed when the building was soon sold and Big Blue Bargains was forced out after just six months.
Big Blue Bargains had been looking for a new space since the spring while operating pop-up stands at the Swampscott Farmer’s Market in the meantime.

Big Blue Bargains Vice President Laura Lynn told Patch on Friday that the leadership of the nonprofit — which has undergone many changes since its inception and days at the middle school — is “excited about the new space” and with the agreement approved can now begin outlining how to accept donations, solicit volunteers and when the doors will open.
“We are so grateful for the previous board’s leadership and guidance as we navigated this change,” Lynn said. “We’re excited to breathe new life into Big Blue Bargains as a vital resource for the town and continue the legacy that Kris Dishman and her team of volunteers created more than 10 years ago.

“A huge thank you to the Swampscott Select Board, especially David Grishman, for being instrumental in making this partnership come to life.”
While there will be outreach efforts, those looking to “help us get off the ground” are encouraged to reach out through social media and email at [email protected].
“Watch for upcoming announcements on when we will start accepting donations (hint: VERY soon),” Big Blue Bargains posted on social media. “Thank you to everyone who cheered us on while we searched for a new place.”
