The fire was on the seventh floor of La Grange Tower, 141 N. La Grange Road, Village President Mark Kuchler said at Monday’s Village Board meeting.

Completed in 1969, the 10-story building has nearly 100 units, according to real estate websites.

Two people suffered minor injuries, Kuchler said.

“There was a lot of smoke,” he said. “They had to evacuate above and stage below. They obviously did a fine job, and the residents were all safely removed, and then with Red Cross, anybody who wasn’t able to secure housing has been able to.”

Kuchler called the fire a “big occurrence.”

“It really shows how not only our surrounding first responders are willing to contribute, but also (those from) far and wide helped out,” he said.
