NORWALK, CT — Barbecue fans in Norwalk should receive an early holiday gift this year as Mighty Quinn’s BBQ, a popular franchise famous for its brisket and other classic barbecue items, plans to open its first Connecticut restaurant in town next month.
Located in the former Bobby Q’s space on Merwin Street at the Waypointe complex, Co-CEO Micha Magid said the newest Mighty Quinn’s location is planned to open in December, bringing a new barbecue option to an area in need of one.
“Barbecue is one of those universally loved food categories that is just underrepresented in a lot of areas,” Magid said to Patch. “Norwalk probably is one of them.”

Mighty Quinn’s currently operates a number of locations in New York and New Jersey, as well as a few in Maryland and Florida.
According to Magid, the Mighty Quinn’s team has been interested in opening a Connecticut location since their pit master, Hugh Mangum, moved to Wilton a few years ago, where he opened the popular Rise Doughnut shop.

“We always had an eye on Connecticut, just being that we’re kind of a New York and New Jersey-based brand,” Magid said, “and it just aligned well with this location and Hugh being local to the area. We had a great landlord who wanted us to take over an old restaurant space and kind of reactivate it, so the stars just kind of aligned for us on this one.”
The space also offered the Mighty Quinn’s team an opportunity to expand from their typical fast casual business model to their first full-service restaurant, complete with a wait staff and a full bar.
“As it relates to the food menu, it’s all the core favorites of Mighty Quinn’s classic barbecue stuff,” Magid said, “and then we’ve also added a couple new entrees and appetizers, some new stuff to just diversify the menu a little bit…we also developed a really special craft cocktail menu that pairs amazing with the barbecue.”

Among those specialty cocktails will be four different espresso martinis made with different alcohol bases.
“I think for espresso martini lovers out there, they’re going to find that pretty interesting,” Magid said.
In addition to their brisket, which is smoked over oak for almost a full day, and other classic barbecue dishes, Magid noted Mighty Quinn’s is also well-known for the care they put into each of their side dishes.
“Some barbecue places almost treat side dishes as like an afterthought,” Magid said. “For us, they are as important, so I think we have some really great specialty side dishes that pair really well with the entrees.”
Just as important as a delicious and accessible menu is a laid back atmosphere where guests can feel comfortable. According to Magid, the new Norwalk location aims to be a place where everyone can enjoy themselves throughout the day.
In addition to a bar area and dining room, the Norwalk restaurant will also feature a game room with a shuffleboard system and a sectioned off area for birthday parties and events.
“Our mission is to kind of mirror our great food with great customer service, so I feel that people when they visit us, we’ll have something for everybody,” Magid said. “We have the bar for cocktails and late night, we have a very comfortable dining room for families and people just coming in for dinner, we have a game room, which I think is something unique to the area…our goal is to bring amazing barbecue to Norwalk, but also to create a destination that people will enjoy hanging out at.”
