Looking For Lambo: Manhattan Couple Still Searching For Lost Parrot

MANHATTAN, IL — A Manhattan family hasn’t given up hope that they’ll find their beloved bird, who has been missing since flying out of their home June 6.

Linda and Jake Annolino have only had their young, green-cheeked conure “Lambo” for a year, but they’ve grown quite attached to him.

“He is our first bird,” Linda Annolini told Patch. “He’s such a little love bug.”

Lambo’s wings were clipped when they first got him, she said, but grew out in time. When they realized how much he enjoyed flying within their home, they opted not to re-clip them, Annolino said.

“He loved flying around the house, from his cage up to the cabinets,” she said. “We thought ‘let him enjoy his freedom,’ but that was a mistake on our part.”

Lambo was sitting atop Jake’s shoulder—as he loved to do—on June 6, when Jake went out to the garage. The door was slightly ajar.

“Something must have spooked him,” Annolino said, “and he went out under the door.”

They live in the Stonegate neighborhood of Manhattan, on Smith Road between Cedar Road and Briggs Street. They’re newer to town, having lived there only two years.

Initially, neighbors called them often with what they believed to be sightings of Lambo, Annolino said, but the birds spotted were not their beloved Lambo. They haven’t given up hope that they’ll find him.

“Either he’s not out there anymore, or somebody maybe took him in,” Annolini said. I hope he has a home somewhere.”

She said she hopes others will spread the word, and they can eventually be reunited with Lambo.

“Maybe somebody—if they have taken a bird in, and they don’t realize someone is looking,” she said.

She admits they made a mistake in not clipping his wings, but he is deeply missed.

“It was heartbreaking,” she said, of the day he flew away.
