Don't Miss Chef Challenge: Salad Edition In Kingston Tuesday
KINGSTON, NY — People’s Place will host their 10th Annual Chef Challenge on Tuesday.
Chef Challenge: Salad Edition will pit chefs and faculty from the Culinary Institute of America against each other and Kingston restaurant chefs to compete for the title of Farm Fresh Chef Extraordinaire.
Graziano Tecchio owner of Downtown Café will return to defend his 2023 title. In addition, guest chefs include Brandy Walters (Hole in the Wall), Bobby Perriello (Culinary Institute of America), Julien Shapiro (Fletcher & Lu) and Dennis Quinn (People’s Place Community Café).

The “Smoothie Bar” will be making a return appearance as well this year, organizers promised.
The competing chefs will be bulking up food pantry staples with “mystery ingredients” of fresh Hudson Valley farm produce from the weekly Free Farm Stand at People’s Place. They will use inexpensive seasonings easily found, such as salt, pepper, condiment packets and dollar spices. Farm Stand visitors will be able to talk with the chefs, learn food preparation techniques, get recipes, sample salads and vote on their favorite culinary creations.

“I think the best part of the Chef Challenge is learning new ways to combine different greens, veggies and fruit to make interesting salads,” Christine Hein, Executive Director of People’s Place, told Patch. “It is a wonderful opportunity to speak with the different chefs and learn some pointers from them!”
This event is free and open to the public, thanks in part to the Regional Food Bank of North Eastern New York and The Hudson Valley Farm Hub.
There are no income eligibility guidelines at the free farm stand, and all are welcome.
