After 24 games in the Super 12, still, no side has qualified for the semis. South Africa had the chance to become the 1st, but their loss to Pakistan once again made it interesting in the second group. Bangladesh and India are also in the hunt for a final four spot.
In a couple of days, all 4 of them will be playing their final Super 12 games. South Africa face Netherlands, Pakistan face Bangladesh and India face Zimbabwe. Now while India and Pakistan are trying to outdo each other for a top 2 finish in the group, we could have a scenario of how they both make it to the semis.

Confused? No, it’s not rocket science. First South Africa need to lose to Netherlands, if they win then one semi-spot belongs to them. But in the unlikely event, they do lose, then they remain on five points. After that if Pakistan beat Bangladesh, which is very much possible, then Pakistan and India will have both qualified and India’s last game will be redundant except in determining who tops the group.
Of course, if South Africa win then they are through and Pakistan beat Bangladesh they have to hope India lose to Zimbabwe which will make points equal and Pakistan would advance due to an already superior NRR.
In a funnier event if South Africa ends up with a no result, Pakistan/Bangladesh win and India lose then all 3 will be on six points and net run rate will end up deciding the 2 who go through.
India’s advantage is they are playing last so they will know exactly what they have to do. Of course, if there’s rain, results may be impacted so it will be interesting as we approach the final stage of the Super 12s.
