Pakistan’s troubling economic status is no secret and has been a recurring topic in the South Asian discourse. And now Pakistanis are not sparing the finance minister Ishaq Dar over an unrelated tweet to ward off anxiety and depression.
The people from the Islamic republic have interpreted his tweet as his desperate effort to deal with economic instability in Pakistan.

Minister asked about ‘prayer to prevent the loan default’
Rather than drawing reactions for or against the actual depression or anxiety-related problems in and beyond Pakistan, the tweet became a medium to target Shehbaz Sharif’s key minister over loan defaults. People from Pakistan on the micro-blogging site inquired the minister if he knew of any prayers to ensure that the country doesn’t default on loans from various countries and multilateral organisations.
“Brother, tell us the prayer to prevent the loan default as well,” one user replied.
“It surely means that economic situation is out of hand and even the outspoken and self proclaimed experienced Finance Minister is praying to Allah to save him from public backlash amid imminent default threat the country is facing,” another wrote.
“The best thing our finance minister has done for us since returning back from a trip at UK is releasing his own assets from NAB,” a third Twitter user wrote.
‘Financial emergency’ in Pakistan
Earlier this week, Pakistan Business Forum (PBF) called upon the State Bank of Pakistan to take necessary measures against the ‘financial emergency’ in the country.
“We still have foreign debt of $130 billion and $73 billion due in three years. Our deficit for next three years is a minimum of $20 billion to $30 billion. Additionally, super inflation is killing the poor. This is a financial emergency,” PBF CEO, Ahmad Jawad said in a statement.
Pakistan ministers trolled by Indians too
Recently, Twitterati from India have also trolled Pakistan ministers – including PM Shehbaz Sharif and Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman.
Sharif was lashed out by Indian cricket fans in November this year – when India was knocked out of the T20 World Cup following a crushing 10-wicket loss to England in the semi-finals.
The Pakistan PM tried to ruffle people across the border through a tweet in the wake of India’s defeat. Through his post, he was trying to remind the Indian cricket fans of the 10-wicket loss to Pakistan in the previous year’s T20 WC opener in Dubai.
“So, this Sunday, it’s: 152/0 vs 170/0 #T20WorldCup,” Sharif wrote on Twitter.

Indian fans retorted brutally by reminding the Pakistan chief of the dire state of the economy in his country and referred to his behaviour as childish.
In November 2022, Sherry Rehman was also trolled after she lectured India on minority persecution.
Targeting minorities : In the Universal Periodic Review for Rights at least 21 states felt India needed to do more to protect its religious minorities, with violence and hate speech targeted at minorities being a major concer https://t.co/2009JKS5Qr

In a tweet, she accused India of ‘targeting minorities’ and claimed that at least 21 states needed to do more to protect their religious minorities. However, Indian netizens lambasted the Pakistani minister sermonising India and listed incidents of minority persecution in her own country.
