Doraemon’s Quake Ideas helped the six-year-old boy
Amidst the chaos, the politician’s son came out as a survivor of the incident. The six-year-old Mustafa could protect himself from the impact by following earthquake guidelines he learnt through a cartoon show Doraemaon.
Recalling the incident, Mustafa said he was watching television when the building suddenly shook.
“Earlier in the day, when light tremors were felt in the city, I was reminded about the dos and don’ts during an earthquake. I thought that another round of tremor had hit the city,” he told Times Of India.
“I was terrified but I recalled an episode of the cartoon show ‘Doraemon’ in which Nobita (the central character of the series) was taught about protecting himself during an earthquake by taking shelter in corners or under the bed. Without wasting a second, I took shelter under the bed,” Mustafa recalled.
“I saw mummy running and screaming. Within no time, the entire building collapsed and everything became dark,” he said.
“I did not fall unconscious even after the incident. I heard people screaming and crying for my mother and father but to no avail. I felt suffocated and don’t remember anything after that. Later, I saw some strangers taking me somewhere,” Mustafa said.
Mustafa’s father, Abbas Haider, was not at his residence when the incident occurred, while his grandfather Amir Haidar, a veteran Congress leader present with the family, survived the incident.
Boy lost mother, grandmother to the tragedy
As per reports, Mustafa’s grandmother, Begum Haider, 87, was pulled out of the debris Wednesday morning after a nightlong rescue operation.

She was rushed to the hospital but reportedly succumbed to internal injuries at the medical facility. The boy’s mother, Uzma Haider, 30, also died at the hospital, PTI reported.
Responding to the tragedy in Abbas Haider’s family, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav tweeted: “Extremely saddened by the demise of Begum Haider ji and wife Uzma Abbas ji, mother of Samajwadi Party spokesperson Abbas Haider. May God give peace to the departed souls. Deepest condolences to the bereaved family. Heartfelt tribute”.
Reason of collapse yet to be ascertained
Meanwhile, CM Yogi Adityanath ordered setting up a three-member committee to probe the incident and submit a report within a week.
And the Lucknow administration ordered the lodging of a case against the builder and owners of the multi-storey building in the Hazratganj area, PTI reported quoting a government statement.

As per a Hindustan Times report, several reasons have been brought up for the tragic collapse of the Aliyah Apartment in the Hazratganj area of Lucknow, which had as many as 12 flats and two penthouses on the top floor.
But none of them has been ascertained as of now.
Preliminary investigations indicate some construction work was taking place at the building’s parking lot.
Locals told the publication that the builder was allegedly constructing the basement by breaking some columns of the building.
Meanwhile, Lucknow divisional commissioner (Ms) Roshan Jacob said that the building was illegal and its “map was not passed”.
A 5.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Nepal on Tuesday is also being considered the reason for the collapse. The tremors with 5.8 magnitude were felt in Lucknow and other parts of north India and lasted for several seconds.
Uttar Pradesh DGP DS Chauhan said on Tuesday that prima facie “it appears a case of natural disaster”.
“Perhaps the 5.8 intensity earthquake (with its epicentre in Nepal) coupled with the building being in a riverine belt—as the Gomti river is nearby—could have caused the incident,” he told HT.
