Vince McMahon backstage at WWE Raw

For the first time since announcing his retirement last summer, Vince McMahon is backstage at a WWE event.

Our own Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer posted to Twitter on Monday that the majority owner and executive chairman of WWE is at Raw. Tonight's show takes place in Boston and features the return of John Cena. Over 13,000 tickets have been distributed to the event.

McMahon and Cena were spotted in public together last August at the Waverly Inn restaurant in New York City celebrating McMahon's 77th birthday.

News that McMahon is at tonight's show comes as speculation grows regarding his involvement in WWE creative. McMahon returned to the company in January but his role was said to only involve spearheading efforts regarding a potential sale. The situation was addressed in Friday's edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Meltzer wrote:

From an official standpoint, McMahon is not involved directly. Paul Levesque has said that he does listen to McMahon. But Levesque also made clear that he has the final say.

Some of the speculation regarding McMahon's involvement in WWE creative stems from the booking of Brock Lesnar vs. Omos at WrestleMania.

Meltzer wrote the following regarding Lesnar vs. Omos:

This match has been subject of a ton of speculation, including from the angle where MVP spit alcohol in Lesnar’s face, with people pointing to this as a sign that Vince McMahon is involved with creative.
