Arsenal have rejected a €8m offer from Monaco for Belgian defensive midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga (23), according to a report from Foot Mercato.
Sambi Lokonga joined the Premier League leaders in July 2021 from Anderlecht for a reported €17m plus €5m bonuses and on a five-year contract. The Belgian midfielder has seen his playing time dwindling during this title-chasing campaign. He played 19 Premier League games last season but has only registered six appearances this term. He has not played Premier League football since coming on during Arsenal’s win against arch-rivals Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium on October 1st. Sambi Lokonga played all six Europa League games with the Gunners though.
Foot Mercato add that Monaco have been looking for reinforcements this transfer window, after having sanctioned the departures of Benoît Badiashile to Chelsea and those of ex-loanees Willem Geubbels to Saint-Gall and Benjamin Lecomte to Montpellier. The outlet does not say if Monaco will increase their €8m offer to Arsenal for Sambi Lokonga or look elsewhere for midfield reinforcements.
