In an interview to Metro revealed who were her childhood idols. Kontaveit, who will try to go far in the upcoming Australian Open where she defeated Sara Sorribes Tormo in a straight-set first round, said: I watched [Maria] Sharapova and Azarenka I remember quite a bit.
Also, I think thats for everyone, but I really enjoy watching [Roger] . Obviously. I played Azarenka when I was 14 or 15 for the first time in Fed Cup. I obviously lost. But it sort of gave me some motivation.
Obviously I got beaten easily, something like one and two, I cant remember. It wasnt close at all. But I remember that I did feel like it wasnt like something crazy, you know, I didnt feel it was too far away or impossible.
I still had a lot to learn and I had to get better at a lot of things but I felt like it was realistic. Kontaveit is satisfied with the progresses made so far and she heads into Melbourne being confident: Its been really well.
It took a couple of months to get to know each other a bit better, to get used to the way he was coaching, you know, everybody coaches a little bit different so it took a few months to get used to that but I think its been going really well and were getting on well.
My off-season actually went really well. I was in Thailand. It was the first time doing it with Nigel, we worked on a lot of different things. ALSO READ: Rafael Nadal: Worse players than David Ferrer won a Grand Slam title
