After absorbing a drubbing on social media, The New Republic has improved a job posting for the position of “deputy inequality editor,” which required 29.5 hours of work a week — with no benefits.
“Long a champion of equality in all its guises, The New Republic is looking for an editor to oversee a forthcoming inequality vertical,” the TNR said in a post advertising the part-time gig.
“Whoever wrote this needs to apply as an irony editor stat,” tweeted @antifashgordon.
By Monday afternoon, TNR’s editor-in-chief, Win McCormack, and publisher, Kerrie Gillis, were backtracking.
“Going forward, all permanent part-time positions (minimum 30 hours/week) will receive benefits.”
