Clint Frazier is first victim of Yankees’ roster reshuffle

Clint Frazier’s roller-coaster ride of a season will bring him back to northeastern Pennsylvania.

The Yankees sent their 24-year-old outfielder down to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in order to make room for the recently acquired Edwin Encarnacion, manager Aaron Boone announced after Sunday’s 10-4 win over the White Sox.

Frazier’s demotion doesn’t come as much of a surprise — unlike Gio Urshela, Kendrys Morales and Cameron Maybin, Frazier won’t need to pass through waivers for the roster move. It was expected the Yankees would send their potential trade chip back down once Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge soon return from injuries. The arrival of Encarnacion, whom the Yankees traded for Saturday night, only expedited the process.

Frazier was a part of the B-list Yankees group that kept the club more than afloat during its rash of injuries, though his defensive miscues often overshadowed his contributions at the plate. He takes a .285/.333/.522/.855 line, along with 11 home runs, back to the minors. Mike Tauchman will likely face the same fate when Stanton returns this week as expected.
