‘sMothered’ mom and daughter: It’s ‘sick,’ but we’re each other’s real husbands

And you thought your mom was a lot!

“SMothered,” a new TLC series co-produced by The Post, shines a spotlight on close mother-daughter relationships. Emphasis on close.

The reality show, which airs Sundays at 10 p.m., features four mom-daughter pairs whose relationships range from a little much (multiple daily phone calls, dressing alike) to holy-cow bonkers (sleeping in the same bed, bathing together).

In a four-part series of exclusive interviews with The Post, the TLC “sMothered” cast reveals the best and worst parts of being attached at the hip.

Cathy and Cristina

“I live for my children and I live through my children,” says Chicago mom Kathy, 59, in a teaser clip for “sMothered” TLC.

She also basically lives right on top of daughter Cristina, 33 — just five houses down the block.

“If her car isn’t in the driveway, I’m like, ‘Where did she go that she didn’t tell me? Where is she?’ ” says Kathy. “I know it sounds sick, but it’s the way we live. We’re just so nosy . . . We have to know everything.”

This suits the mom-daughter duo, who are together all day, every day. They share daily meals and tanning sessions, keep each other company during errands and chores, rock out at concerts with Cristina’s friends and hold each other’s hands when one goes under the scalpel.

“I had my eyes done, she was there. I had liposuction, she was there,” says Kathy. “She had her boobs done, I was there.”

It’s not just the cosmetic stuff, either: “When she was pregnant, I went to every doctor’s appointment. I was in the room when she had the baby,” says Kathy.

Cristina’s married — but she says that she loves that her mom is her primary partner.

“I don’t have my husband come with me to buy a couch,” says Cristina, a stay-at-home mom of three who hopes to have a similarly close relationship with her own daughters. “[My mom and I] do all of that together . . . We’re each other’s husbands.”

That’s not to say that her husband of nine years, Carlo, is totally cool with it.

“In the beginning, he’d throw a little dig here and there about my mom,” she says.

Although she says he’s “gotten better” about it, there are still tense moments on “sMothered”: In the series, Cristina calls Carlo jealous of her relationship with her mom, and he responds with dripping sarcasm, “You’re right. I’m dying to be hanging out with my mother all day.”

Cristina also thinks it hurts him that he’s not her top confidant.

“If something happens, I’ll tell [my mom] first,” she says. “He’ll be like, ‘Wait, you already told your mom? I wasn’t your first phone call?’ So I think sometimes it bothers him. But he’s learned to adjust.”

Kathy’s boyfriend, on the other hand, is still adjusting.

“He can’t get over it — [he’s] like, ‘I don’t understand how you guys could spend so much time together,’ ” says Kathy.

She’s nonplussed by his reaction.

“I’m a tacky Italian, so I’ll just throw a dig right back at him. It doesn’t bother me.

“Sometimes people will say, ‘She needs to be independent’ and that kind of thing, and I just don’t get it,” Kathy says.

“Why wouldn’t I want to see my daughter every day, what reason would that be? What reason would she not want to see me every day?”
