Novak Djokovic is the favorite to win Australian Open, says Roger Federer

The four Hopman Cup singles straight set matches won last week in Perth definitely increased chances at the Australian Open. But the Swiss feels cautious about his possibilities to triumph in Melbourne for the seventh time.

Im one of the top 10 favourites and so are many others, said Federer. I dont know the draw yet, I dont know who my first round opponent is, I dont know if I play on Monday or day or night.

In terms of who is going to win it, we know who the usual suspects are and I am part of that bunch. Then commenting on the other opponents, the 37-year-old added: No doubt about it, Novak () is the favourite.

Regardless of what happened in Doha, the guy had a super, super strong last five or six months of the year. He struggled early but once he found his class and the groove back, he is hard to beat. People always thought, always worried, is he really ever gonna come back, but you know how to hit a tennis ball, its all in the body.

The same as Rafa (Nadal), we know when he is at 100% how tough he is to beat, so the moment these guys show the 100% they are always going to be the favourites. Federer admitted he feels surprised that he heads into this months Australian Open with a 14-match winning streak in the tournament having won 2017 and 2018 titles.

Winning back to back Australian Opens like this in my mid 30s is one of my favorite things I will look back on in my career, I didnt think it was going to happen, Federer admitted. I have had such a great time in Australia the last couple of years and always enjoyed playing here.

Its definitely of the bigger highlights of my tennis playing career. ALSO READ: Rafael Nadal: Worse players than David Ferrer won a Grand Slam title
