I could feel that something was happening with Murray, says Lopez
In an interview to Eurosport, commented on retirement from tennis. Lopez admitted that this decision comes as no surprise for him. Very tough. In the recent times, when he tried to comeback dealing with issues, I followed it closely and I saw that he was not able to recover, which was strange, said Lopez. He was away for more than a year, he visited a lot of specialists, he did all what he could do.
Speaking with him I could perceive that he was not happy, he was a little bit sad which is hard when you do everything to comeback. I did not tell him anything, but seeing his face and his team when they were speaking each other I saw something was happening.
If you have a person who I do not want to retire due to an injury is him because he was so professional. I wish him the best. People are sad for the way he retired, and also at 31 years of age which happens rarely nowadays.
Lopez could end his career this year and he appreciates his time on court more than ever: In the last few years, I have been enjoying these tournaments more, being here and being able to play another Grand Slam is a tremendous luck, I will try to take advantage of it.
