Desperate Cowboys have been trying to pry Jason Witten from ‘MNF’

In need of a tight end, the Cowboys have been trying to pull a rabbit out of their head.

Dallas head coach Jason Garrett has made multiple attempts throughout this season — including in recent weeks — to coax Jason Witten back onto the field, according to an ESPN report Sunday. The offers so far have been rejected, as the “Monday Night Football” broadcaster has made it clear he is firmly retired.

The Cowboys, at 7-5, are now atop the horrible NFC East, a game up on both the Eagles and Redskins, and tight end has been a season-long problem. Geoff Swaim originally was the starter, but has been out since November wrist surgery.

That position had been a significant area of strength since 2003, a span in which Witten went to 11 Pro Bowls and caught 68 touchdowns, amassing more than 12,000 yards receiving. He retired after last season and moved right into the ESPN booth.
