D.J. Swearinger finds a new team after Redskins ‘spit in my face’

D.J. Swearinger’s new team can’t claim it doesn’t know what it’s getting into.

The transparent safety, who has shown he’s not afraid to call out anyone, including his own coaches, is going back to his old franchise, as the Cardinals claimed him off waivers Tuesday.

“I am so excited to go back to the sunny desert Arizona like I never left!!” the Pro Bowl alternate wrote on Instagram.

He was not left dangling for long. A day prior, the Redskins waived him after he criticized defensive coordinator Greg Manusky, saying his game plan against the Titans on Saturday was partly to blame for Washington’s loss. Swearinger, who had four interceptions this season in his second year as a Redskins starter, went on DC radio Monday to announce his release, saying coach Jay Gruden called him into his office, alerted him of the news, and would not provide a reason.

“I gave that organization my heart and soul and they spit in my face for giving my opinion only to better the team!!” the 27-year-old wrote. “Right wrong or indifferent I’ve found my peace and learned from it.”

Arizona, whom he played for in 2016, will absorb his $2.4 million salary for next season.
