7 Rescued From Balconies In Woodbridge Terrace Apt. Fire
WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Seven people had to be rescued from their apartment balconies Sunday night when a fire broke out in the garden apartment complex across the street from Woodbridge Center Mall.
The apartment complex is Woodbridge Terrace apartments, pictured above, located on Woodbridge Center Drive and across the street from the mall.
The call of the fire came in just before 11 p.m. Sunday and it rose to a two-alarm fire, said Woodbridge Fire Chief Michael Balog. It was a person walking by who first noticed a fire on the exterior wall of one of the apartments, and called 911.

The fire quickly spread to affect eight total apartments. Seven residents of the complex had to be rescued by Woodbridge Police and fire crews from their balconies, using rescue ladders.
One person had to be hospitalized Sunday night, said Balog. He did not know their condition as of Monday morning.

Eight total apartment units were damaged by the fire, and all eight were deemed uninhabitable Sunday night, he said.

Balog would not release any cause of the fire Monday morning, saying it remains under investigation.
